b16a transmission whines
i have a 91 acura integra with a b16a cable tranny. i just replaced the pass trans seal, (input shaft seal) it set at a angle couples days had to find the seal. i got it all back together now when i engage the clutch and put it in gear it whines. it does not matter what gear. what i can hear it only does it in idle, if i drive it quite but if it just in idle with the clutch in gear it whines sounds awful. can someone help im so lost, thanks
Given you had to replace and axle seal..it was probably leaking..so there is a chance you ran it low on fluid which is not a good thing. You may have a bad differential or input shaft bearing. They whine when they are on their way out. Did you check fluid level and condition?
When i replaced the seal itself it leaked fluid. so i put about a quart and half in it not really sure how to check to fluid on a straight shift. My buddy told me to stick my finger in the hole you fill it in to make sure u can feel then it is full. so i went off of that so i replaced the oil in bout a quart and half low.
Right next to the axle output there will be a fill bolt that your buddy is talking about..you stick your finger in there to check the level. A quart and a half low is a lot to be low by and not sure if you leaked all that out replacing the seal...it may have been low for a while and may have ruined one or more bearings.
