Default Car intermittently shuts off while driving & alarm sounds

Hi I have this weird issue.

This happens intermittently while driving. Just cruising along suddenly the checklight, dash lights, start flashing on/off/on/off/on/off etc rapidly. While all this is happening the car dies i.e. no fuel or spark. Also at the same time the alarm chirps (not the loud chirp but the quieter arm/disarm chirp.) I'm still rolling so what I do is put the car into neutral, turn key to 'on', press disarm button on alarm remote, and then the checklights stop flashing and then i am able start the car to continue driving with no issues.

My question is:
Is there any possibility that either a bad main relay switch, fuel pump relay or distributor trigger the alarm to go crazy intermittently and the cause the imobilisers to disable the car while driving?

OR

Do you think it's the alarm with the problems? I've already got the alarm guy to double check all wiring at that is fine

Thanks!

have you checked to make sure your battery terminals are on tight? if they come off while driving it will cause this. most alarms will reset and go off when you disconnect the battery termials and it loses power, and then the terminals touch and it gets power back. i had this same problem and felt like a retard when that ended up being the culprit.

Can this occur even when the car is running on alternator power? Also going by your logic can a battery that is near end of life do this, even when the car is running?

yes of the battery is on its way this can occur. I recommend you clean and tighten all contact. Check the battery for 12 volts and check you charging system for 14 volts

What is the make and model of the alarm?

The first thing I would do is check the main grounds, batt.. batt. to chassis and chassis to engine.

Check the alarms ground. 94

Alarm is AVS - it's a New Zealand brand. Top of the line here. All alarm wiring has been checked and problem still occuring.

I have a suspicion it may be the infamous "ignition switch" issue?
http://techauto.awardspace.com/ignitionswitch.html or http://www.visualimpressions.ca/switch/

Just just randomly shuts off while driving or idling. But can be restarted immediatly. Could this be the problem and it just trigger the alarm at the same time?

I would guess it is the alarm itself if it is not a grounding issue.

Is the alarm wired to an "ign. kill" of some type, if alarm is armed can you start the car, will it crank and not start or is there a "starter kill" engine will not even crank, or does it have both ign. kill and starter kill.

Not sure about that alarm, but most alarms will "power up" in whatever mode they were in when power was lost, if alarm is armed and power is cut the alarm will trigger, [because it is armed] when power is reconnected, if alarm is disarmed, [off] when power is disconnected, it will still be disarmed when power is reconnected.

You can test this on your car by disconnecting the batt. with alarm armed and disarmed to see what it does.

Even though the alarms wiring has been checked and is good, the problem may be the alarm itself, you could always just unplug the alarm brain and see if you still have the problem. 94
