Default New to Tuning/ Engine managment

I have been stalking this section of the forum for about 6 months now and have decided to purchase some things to start tuning on Crome. I do not plan on tuning others cars, just my own. So far I have downloaded Crome and am in the process of purchasing a Moates Ostrich, Moates Burn1 and a Moates Hulog. I am undecided on what wideband I am going to purchase, but it will most likely be an Innovative. I have been messing around with Crome and all its functions and seem to be getting the hang of it. I will be tuning on an OBD1 P28 ecu for a basic 96 Spec ITR with bolt- ons. I decided to start trying to tune myself considering our tuning/ tuners around here are un-reliable and extremly expensive.

My questions are...
- Is this basemap http://www.xenocron.com/bins/index.p...Crome/B-Series (6th one down) a good start for my setup?
- What is a safe rev limit for an ITR motor with simple bolt ons (I/H/E)
- Will a basemap run this setup nicely, or will it run a bit lean

Crome-Stock-TypeR-P73-240cc.bi
Stock Type R basemap

yup good bin to start with...safe redline is 9k but power will start dropping off pretty quick after 8500
as for if it will run lean thats what the wideband is for....get a wideband before you do anything.

my personal car im using a p30 on crome gold with the ostrich and an innovate lm-1. great combo.

Great advice . I plan to keep the setup simple and reliable. Its not my DD, but I do want the motor to last... I mean it is a Type R

I plan on running a Hytech replica or Bisi B series rep with an AEM 3 inch or 3 inch to a velocity stack along with a buddy club spec 2 exhaust. With a somewhat conservative tune, around what whp should I plan on gaining compared to a stock map/ecu?

Hard to say really without the car on a dyno...every motor ive ever tuned has responded differently to timing and a/f with aftermarket parts. itr motors with bolt on's are pretty easy to pull around 190whp out of with good tuning.

I would be MORE than happy to make that much. I am aiming for around 180whp. Anything more is a + for me

I know I'm going to hear it from multiple people that I'm wrong, but from MY OWN EXPERIENCE , I'd suggest upgrading the rod bolts to ARP as soon as you can before pushing the rpms up past factory redline. I've had two B18c-R engines come apart from the stock rodbolts at high rpm. First engine I thought was just a fluke, second engine i wanted to kick myself for not upgrading them right away... Other than that, you can push the stock R's pretty hard without any troubles, just make sure it is tuned well.

As for a tune I have a p28 with a tune for a b20 VTEC. I plan on re using that Ecu and using a p73 basemap instead of buying an Ecu and jumper

Should be fine since most chips are reburnable.

chips like the 27sf512 are EEPROM...electronic erasable programmable read only memory....they are designed to be erased and programmed over and over.

So you mean two instead of several. Two is a couple, not several.

That is still only one .bin file at a time.

Information;
Every time you write a new tune or put/burn/save a ROM to the chip, it may prompt you to overwrite the previous data. If it doesn't prompt you, then it overwrites the previous data by default. You have to direct the data to be stored/burned/saved into a different section of the ROM chip in order to have more than one ROM/bin/basemap/tune on the chip at a time.
