Default YOUR "rumors" and "myths" about turbo-ing

hey guys..im not sure if this has been done but i did a search and didnt find one...thought itd be cool to have a thread about the rumors of turbo kits, parts, and just the whole idea in general..i have heard MANY things about this brand intercoolers suck, or the quality of this turbo kit being low, or this manifold always cracking..so let me know..here are a few "myths" or rumors i have gained from this board:

-drag manifolds are "known" to crack
-DRAG kits are "known" for bad quality (i know this first hand..their oil lines SUCK!)
-FMAX turbo kit's MF2 SUCKS!!
-turbonetics turbos are known to leak oil? (people always tell me to go garret instead..which i just recently did)

if u guys want to, then add on..

What is the point of this thread? Are you hoping to spread mis-information? The stuff you listed is basically BS and does not by any means apply to all products made by DRAG, ERL, etc.

I hope a mod will delete this post entirely. Advice from newbs to newbs is usually not good, but especially when it's hearsay or rumors as he stated. The problem is he is stating them as fact.

Well lots of people do have problems with turbonetics turbos and the mf2 unit does suck. You're bound to get some uneven fuel distribution. My turbonetics turbo hasnt given me any trouble at all yet tho.... <knocks on wood>

Well, I have not used the MF2, but then again I don't think you have either.

Although I HAVE seen LOTS of people have very good luck with them. Yeah, they're not good for 30 PSI boost, but neither is an FMU. I would take an MF2 over the FMU any day.

Come to think of it, the only people I have seen talk bad about them were here, and only 1 or 2 of those people actually had one.

At any rate, I'm not trying to start a big debate, but somebody somewhere always has a problem with somebody's product. My Revhard manifold cracked, but I'm not going out and saying they suck and they always crack. I'm not posting to this thread anymore after this because I don't think it should stay at the top

*sigh*

i apologize for this thread...maybe it wasnt a good idea after all..a mod can delete this thread if u want..this was supposed to be an "informative" thread rather than a "bad-mouthing" thread..

the reason why i made this thread is because i am putting together a custom turbo kit..and i made a list of parts..however, with COUNTLESS companies making the same product (everything from manifolds to intercoolers to downpipes, etc) i was clueless as to which brand was "good" or "bad"...

turns out i had MANY people tell me certain experiences they had with a certain product which made me chose a certain brand over another (ie..people kept telling me that turbonetics turbos are known to leak MORE OFTEN than a garret turbo..not saying ALL turbonetics turbos are bad, but ya get the point)..so with this in my head, i chose the garret turbo and i bought one a few days ago...

and also, this thread wasnt ALSO just about brand names..for example, a "myth" or belief" on this board is that hondata is the BEST and most reliable and ONLY way to manage fuel..this is what i got from the "pro's" on h-t..however, after more research, i found out that using a safc hack is just as effective and reliable for managing fuel when boosting on stock levels (6-8psi)..now did anyone say that an safc hack was bad? nope, but from a "newbie" point of view, thats what a lot of people might believe due to the popularity of hondata..thats just a randon example but there are many more. (like just because u have the LOUDEST BOV doesnt mean its the best..etc)

i guess this was a thread for people to come and see what products they believe in and which ones they dont..all i know is if i bought 3 turbonetics turbo's and they all leaked or gave me troubles, i would DEFINITELY make a thread telling people to avoid using them..and as a future consumer, if someone bought 3 turbonetic turbos and they all leaked, I would like to know about it..

but hey...i can see how this thread can cause a lot of trouble..and once again, i apologize...

also, the products above i listed were all products i have either experienced, watched someone else experienced, or have heard NUMEROUS times about..

To add onto what Rob said...my little brother's car has been running at 13psi daily for some time now. His mechanic really knows how to tune the FMAX setup. Now if he can only figure out how to keep Nate from breaking transmissions.
