Default can someone teach me what the cam gear does to the permance of a sohc vtec engine?

i have always wanted to learn more about how a cam gear works and how do we benefit from adjusting it +/-.
(adjustable came gear of course)

can someone teach me in lamens terms first then maybe more technical terminology?

lets start with what happends when its adjusted + and then -?
what happens and what do i expect to happen when i press on the gas pedal.

On an sohc engine, you will see minimal differences adjusting the cam gear. This is due to the fact that you cannot adjust valve overlap. When you adjust + you are opening and closing both intake and exhaust valves sooner (in relation to crankshaft position).

On dual cam engines, you can do the same but also adjust them independently from eachother. If you adjust the exhaust + more than the intake, you are increasing overlap.

... Hope this helps...

the basic of adjusting the cam gear is; retard=high rev power advance=u get the low rev power...but that is just the basic, when it come to tune it properly u need to understand true top dead centre, full valve lift and and much more
