Default im having problem with my v-tec kicking in on 5th

ok i have an 97 GSR and first i wasnt getting any oil pressure so i change my oil pump. So now my v-tec work on 1st thou 4th gear but on 5 my check light goes on as soon as a pass 4400 rpm.. and i know everyone going to say 'why im still trying to hit v-tec on 5th" well its not that im trying to race to top speed or anything but when i was going up to vegas on the 15 freeway and when i pass 4400rpm on 5th the check light well also go on.??? does anyone know why it would happen only on 5th gear??? sorry i forgot to add i know what the code is 1259 vtec system malfunction. and i replace my pressure switch and v-tec soleniod. and check my oil pressure and my oil level but im wondering why it doesnt work only on 5th

Maybe it throws a code because there's no flux capacitor hooked up! Since 4400 rpm in 5th on stock gearing = 88 mph... just sayin'

haha just had to throw that in there. Unfortunately I'm not real sure why it would only happen in 5th gear. The engine should be operating the exact same at 4400 rpm no matter what gear you're in. The ECU itself doesn't know what gear you're in.

yeah that why im tripping out why its only happening on 5th gear cuz if my check light come on for v-tec it should happen on any gear i am in.. but no only on 5th when i was going on that long highway trying to get to 90mph. and was u serious about the flux capacitor so i can look into it..??

lol your lucky you reposted! i was gonna say i bet $5 thats your problem! the crank preasures in 5th gear at that speed and rpm is very high and any leak will cause the oil to not flow correct thus not able to push the pins in the rocker arms to activate vtec, only in high rpm in 5th gear is the preasures that high to cause that! dont use to much honda bond on the cam seal and you may as well replace the v.c gasket and spark plug gaskets hell replace the flux compasitor while your at it if that dont activate at 88mph!, heres where mines located

I hope its not your Flux Capacitor, those things aren't cheap.

i'm gonna go with low oil pressure and or crap in the screen. pull the vtec solenoid and clean it. if you ran the motor low on oil you probably fried the rings anyway
