Good source for filler rod discussion
I'm looking to purchase my filler rod in a larger quantity (10 lb +). My local shop that I usually purchase from doesn't have the best prices and for the LIFE of me I cannot get a hold of any sort of rep from welding depot (numerous emails and phone calls). Welding depot has very good prices, but I really want to make sure I'm going to receive brand name filler rod and not some corroded junk. Any suggestions on a decent place that has some small degree of customer service?
On another note; I've been using 1/16" 308l filler rod for my manifolds and I've heard you can get better color using 316 (I know, i'm a ricer). Any input on this? Also, 309 is textbook for mild to stainless, but will I have problems using 308l?

yeah stick to the 309 for the carbon to ss....it has the proper supplement metals in it for right bond...and a company called aventa makes the best rod available...
aventa is a swiss company, they have a manual called 100% stainless....its really worth picking up...its packed with a ton of valuable welding info and has a section on fill rod composition...its worth it
I was just gonna say, there can't be 2 companies with nearly the same name and...
It is a good read, and they made the best SMAW SS electrodes around. GTAW stuff, never tried. The uncovered filler rods have a much smaller variance in quality.
I see to remember a buffalo or something on the boxes of rods...with lines behind it???
