So I have a CRX...and the hood won't pop...it feels like the cable is stretched...no...im not trying to steal someone's car...I need to change my oil. What is the best way to go about popping the hood...and does anyone know the part number for the cable by chance? Thanks for any help.

 

In the area of the hood release latch you can disconnect the cable and pull at it with some pliers or open from under the hood area with a long screw driver but you will have to lift the car and get you hand in there and play around just try to image how the latch works and when you are ready to release it have someone pull it open from top gl.

 

I had that problem once. There is a couple things you can do to get the hood open depending on what the problem is exactly. First thing you should probably check is if the cable got unhooked under the latch. That's what happened to me and I just about ruined my cable with a vise grip trying to get it open before it dawned on me. Remove the marker lights on the front bumper to reveal the bumper bolts. Unscrew the bumper from the mounting plastic pieces that are attached to the fender then take out the 4 bolts behind the marker lights. Once that is off you should be able to get up in there with a tool to make it pop. And that is regardless if the cable is still connected or not. That's the way I did it.

 

when you do get your hood up go to oreillys and get you a new cable 27 bucks i think

 

try having someone push down on the hood while you pull the release in the car. Sometimes they can catch as well and not release the hood.

lol similar situation with my car. sometimes hood will pop with one easy pull, sometimes multiple pulls before it pops open.

 

mine works smooth as butter..plenty of lubricant aaand i never shut my hood hard, just a gentle push down and it latches.
