I'm looking to buy a 2000 4x4 CRV for a winter car. This thing is mint, I mean there's no rust on the body or under it, the interior is clean and doesn't smell, the motor runs great, tranny shifts smooth and the 4x4 works. Only one problem, it's just shy of 186xxx miles. Are there any major problems to look for on these? Other than timing belt, regular stuff, ect. Thanks!

 

There is no timing belt but they do have a chain and they do have issues with them if
they lacked on oil changes . Take it some where and get it inspected but they are pretty solid .

 

Wait, what? The B20 in those CRV's don't have a timing belt?

 

Sorry i was thinking 02 . yes the B20 has a timing belt .

 

Since when is 186k high ? For 11 year old car

 

I would look at all these things and see when it was replace and if they need to be replace.

check Tranny fluid
check Rear Diff fluid
Change Engine oil
Check Spark Plugs
Check Air Filter
Check Coolant

Check struts
Check Bushing
Check Endlinks

Also if the car has loud ticking noise coming from the cams. Then you are going to need a valve adjustment.

B20 motor has Timing belt
Check timing belt and water pump.

 

my 98 has 215k on it, my moms has 275 on it, they both run like champs.. they sway bar links have gone out of both mine and my moms around 200k but its not bad to change them. i changed the timing belts as soon as we bought both of them so i diffident have to worry about it not being done.

 

Usually cars like that are well maintained. They wouldn't drive long distances if their car would break down. However check for all the usualy replacements, imo.
