Default 4" Dia x .025w Inconel 718 Tubing for Exhaust?

I can get a bunch of it for STUPID cheap, was thinking of making a Catback system to replace the current 3in system on my S13 240sx as I will be upgrading the rest of the turbo system soon.

I looked up the material's properties, looks like it would work best up to 1300*F, and can weld to dissimilar materials (steel/SS) using inconel 625 filler rod.

I know EGTs can get fairly high on a turbo car, that's why I mainly wanted to use it as a "catback" setup. Although it shouldn't be much of a problem as it runs on E85, the wall thickness is a little bit of a concern to me as it will be driven on the street from time to time. On the upside, since it is so thin it would be super light...

I'll be keeping an eye out for some 321 or Inc 625 to pop up to make the down/mid pipe out of as those alloys are rated to much higher temperatures(1600*F and 2000*F)

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

Will be great. Just a pain to weld, and it will sound "tinny".
It will weight the same as aluminum, so that's cool.
Go for it, should be a fun project. You have bends too, or just going to pie-cut it?

Yea on one end of each piece it has a bend, a little wider than 45*. I can work with that, I'm trying to avoid doing pie cuts actually.

I currently hold D17.1 certs for 2G and 2F position plate to plate on this material, so welding it is no problem. Although I dont remember being required to do a 6G cert?? Oh well haha.

Just gotta do it on my own time, not company time

Cool to have an inconel exhaust, but function will be the same as a much cheaper aluminum exhaust. It's also so thin, and if it is a street car, a light tap on a pothole or debris on the road will mangle up that exhaust pretty good.

Especially with a 4" exhaust, it may never reach that hot of a temperature anyway. The 4" SS system on my Integra gets warm, but nowhere near as hot as an exhaust manifold or the downpipe. Inconel is complete overkill for a catback. An inconel manifold is where it's at

I guess inconel would overkill for an exhaust. Also how many other people would be rolling around with an inconel exhaust? Lol

The price of the material per lb is CRAZY cheap, since it is considered "scrap" by the company.

I should have about $200 or so into it total, that's with 2 v-band clamp sets and a muffler, inconel tubing included.

Ill make sure to post pics once I get the ball rolling on this.

Post pics of the welds then for sure. I found the worst part of thin wall large diameter stuff is how it distorts from round. Getting the OD lined up perfect is half the battle.
You got .024" filler rod to do it with I hope? Should be baller as mentioned.

Here's my soon to be exhaust-

Unfortunately the smallest rod we have is .035dia. I'm not a master welder, but ill give it my best shot.
