steering squeaky
alright so i recently bought a 93 civic si hatch and when i turn the wheel or go over a bump it squeks. it checked all the bushings and ball joints and they all look fine. now im thinking it might be the power steering pump becuase ive noticed fluid shooting out of the reservoir cap randomly. the steering still feels easy(not like having no power steering). soo idk what it could be =/
maybe either a bad rack and pinion. To check if its bad, start your car up and steer left and right and if one direction is harder to move its a bad rack and pinion. Or it could be your springs moving around when turning.
actually im leaning more towards it being a spring problem. tonight when i got out of my car i lifted the fender up a little bit and pushed it down and it was squeking. but the weird thing is is that it randomly will not squeak sometimes when turning =/ but the majority of the time it does. but also if im just stopped not moving at all and i turn the wheel back and forth its reallly loud. soo idk. btw it feels the same both ways as far as the rack and pinion
Sidexayz,
My car is doing the same exact thing. I found out the problem is the balljoints. I replaced them a while ago and they have a split boot now that ive inspected it. This was causing a very loud noise when turning the wheel. It gets alot louder in cold or wet weather.
i thought it was my rack but im glad i didnt replace it.. (so expensive)
it is soo annoying and im going to take my car apart this weekend and grease the hell out of them. I know its them because I used a tooth brush to try to grease them without taking the knuckles off and it did help some.
Hopefully this is the problem your running into.. if you want a sound clip hit me up

Nice work! mine is 90% gone now so i can live happy again. I have one side with a boot cracked so one side was really loud.. i will replace it soon.
Make sure your balljoints dont have any play while your down there... i would hate for you to have a failure with one in the future do to them wearing badly without greese
glad it worked out!
