To calculate your average mpg, reset you trip meter and next time you fill up the tank to full, take the number of miles on the trip meter and divide by the gallons of gas it took to fill up.
Repeat this method anytime to get your avg. mpg.
The 1998 Civic gas tank capacity should be 11.9 U.S. gallons; however, you can't really tell the actual average mpg without using the trip meter and the number of gallons needed to fill the tank, since the gas remaining in the tank may vary when you fill up unless you ran it dry every time.
The 1998 Civic's average mpg is posted at this site.

However, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) depending on whether the car is automatic or manual, driving habits, etc.
For example, you traveled 275 miles, filled the tank all the way, and it stopped at 10 gallons, your avg. mpg would be 27.5 which would be close to the Civic's published avg. mpg at the above site for city driving. If this was principally Hwy driving, then your avg. mpg would be low in comparison.

Mention your driving style (speed racer vs grandma) as well as how much of your mileage is city versus highway driving. Without such details, gas mileage comparisons are meaningless.
is mainly regular driving and city driving and yes it includes lights and stop signs and i drive 30 miles a day
and no i dont drive like a grandma and im not a speed racer either
i race but i racemy crx at the track

he's not asking what his ej8 is getting. he's asking what an ls SHOULD be getting

that link could help as far as an ls motor should be getting, but you'd have to bend your numbers depending on the weight of the teg vs your civic and size of the gas tank
