need help with my gsr
Hey ht, I need some feedback on what you guys think could be wrong with my motor. I bought a gsr bottom end build with ls crank, ls rods, and gsr pistons. The motor had a b16 head on it before i got it. I now have a stock gsr head on the car. The problem i'm having is that the motor is smoking a crap load of oil when i hit vtec.
I checked the compression on the motor while warm and it was 190 psi all across. My builder checked for leaks on in the seals on the gsr head before mating it on the block and had little to no leaks..Im kinda scratching my head on this one what could it be?

you re hitting vtec too hard
what about a leakdown test?
if its smoking oil then oil is in the combustion chamber, theres only few ways it can get there.

yeah vtec does hit hard lol..but im staying far away from it right now though...I noticed that when my motor is running, lots of air comes out of the oil cap when removed ..Think its bad rings causing that? or could it have anything to do with the crank breather? Leak down test will be next thanks for the input
i mean theres only 3 places i know of directly connected to combustion chamber that also has oil flowing through it.
below piston rings, intake and exhaust valve guides and valve guide seals, or maybe your PCV system is not functioning properly.
might be more, but thats all i know

, but why would lots of air come out the oil filler cap when off? hmm
i think you can check with a piece of paper and the dip stick hole,
there should be no air coming out of the dip stick hole when the stick is out.
i dont know if its normal for the air to come out of the oil hole.
i alsways thought it was normal. but might be a sign of blowby as well.

It sounds like youre getting excessive crankcase pressure. You could try running some kind of additional crankcase vent system first. If that doesnt help, it might be time to get into the bottom end.
I checked for air coming out the dipstick hole and very little air is coming out of their.. Is that not normal?
Hmm do you think this excessive crank pressure is causing my engine to smoke real bad in the higher rmp? Thanks for the help by the way

It can kinda work both ways...
Bad/worn rings can let combustion gasses into the crankcase causing excessive crankcase pressure or inadequate crankcase ventilation can force oil past the rings into the combustion chamber. Both can cause smoke at higher rpm's...
Try a crankcase vent system first. It should help your situation in either case...Good luck!

Do you know of any good engine breathers and where i can get one? I tried searching online but can't find one..Neva mind think i found them..Same as oil catch can right?
