gsr tranny wont go into reverse
so i have a h2b in my ek hatch and motor started knocking so i swapped the h22a4 out and threw in a jdm h22a. got the swap in and noticed that im not able to go into reverse at all. feels like there's something locking and wont let me in. all the other gears shifts like butter. ive checked the shift linkage but they only go on one way since i popped the shifter pin out only and left the linkage on the car. linkage seems to be sitting fine and have no bends to them. now im clueless. please help me out...

i had a friend who had this problem, He got a new ACT clutch... He didnt use an alignment tool when installing the clutch.( he says he lost it, dont ask me how lol) I told him to take it back apart, borrowed him my alignment tool. When he put it back together, it went into reverse just fine.
My second guess would have been that he messed up the trans or dropped something into it somehow.

moua: when i pulled out the old motor and seperated the tranny from it, the fluid came out of the differential. it was a pretty good amount that came out too. so now i just added synthetic blend valvaline 10w40 motor oil into it.
cadalack: that may be a good solution. but the thing is, i did use an alignment tool for the clutch, but did not torque it to specs because i didnt have a torque wrench. my cousin told me to just tighten it because he does that and they work just fine.

It seems like something is stuck. How about when the car is on jack stands? I've had it done to me before. The clutch wasnt aligned somehow when I installed it. Went into gear fine when the car was on the jackstands. Once it came off the stands it wouldnt budge into any gear. Had to take it all off and redo it. LOL sucks but learn from your experiences.

I don't see how the clutch friction disc alignment has anything to do with reverse. Especially if the other gears work, and it doesn't go into reverse with the engine on or off.
Either the transmission slid up to the engine or it didn't. If it did, then the clutch disc is in there correctly. (Unless you forced the tranny up with the bell housing bolts).
As far as what is keeping it out of reverse, I'm not sure. Check the reverse switch and make sure it isn't jamming it somehow? Take out the switch and try. Otherwise it sounds like something internal.
