Looking to "easy out" a manifold stud
I have a broken stud in the engine block that was used to hold on the exhaust manifold. I have an easy out (extractor), but cannot get a hole drilled in the stud to use it. It was center punched and a drill bit started in, but I cannot seem to get a hole made. The drill bit is not shaving metal no matter the pressure applied or speed of the drill. I am using oil to keep the bit cool. I have both black oxide and stainless 1/8" bits. Do I need a carbide bit?
Your help would be greatly appreciated- I'm sure many of you have done this dozens if not hundreds of times. Thanks!

Are you sure you have the drill set to turn in the correct direction?
Also, I would highly recommend not using an EZ-Out on a manifold stud; it will likely just break off in the stud and then you'll have a real problem on your hands.
EZ-Out extractors are made for extracting bolts that shear off due to overtorquing. If a bolt shears due to the threads being seized - as with a steel manifold stud into an aluminum head - your best option is to just drill the entire thing out.
