spring rate/shock question
Hello I am looking for the suspension kit for my trackday ek as it seems like my present shocks are nearly done or just not enough for me after a got the rollcage welded in. The car is bumping and feels very unstable.
So right now, choosing the new suspension kit, I am wondering if there is any kind of correspondence between the specs of the shock and the spring. Let me explain - let's take the Gound Control HT Special Kit which consists of Koni yellows and GC/Eibach springs. The hardest spings they offer for this kit for ek is 430lb/in springs. I wonder what is going to happen if I change these springs for much more - lets say around 800-1000 lb/in - harder ones? Will the shocks and springs and the complete setup work fine? I just took GC/Koni kit as the example. Thanks.

stock sports will be floaty with springs that high. trying to remember the model of the shocks that can handle 1000lbs, think it's koni 2812. the stock sports are fine to around 600-650 up front and 500lb out back. above that they just get too floaty. thmotorsports will sell you koni sports and ground controls for 799 shipped with any springs you want. you could do 550 front and 500 out back with a larger rear bar and get a pretty neutral car. you could even go 450 front and 500 out back if you want an oversteer bias autocross car. unless you're running slicks you won't have much body momentum to fight at 500lbs on a street tire.
The 2812 is a great shock, but expensive. Go that way if you can afford it. Monotubes>twin tubes (yellows).
Pro Parts USA can revalve Koni yellows. For the 89-91 EF civics the valving is called SPSS3.
Call Jeff Wong at ProPartsUSA and talk to him about the equivalent valving for an EK.

you're going to need some solid shocks to run beastly rates like that. Custom valved konis or the progress CS-I.
You're hitting the $1000+ range.
