Icon2 Noob question

Hi, I'm trying to make some repairs on my son's '87 Civic DX. It's a 2 door hatchback with a 1.5 litre. My question is about the corner lights that are mounted on the fenders. Do all the '87 Civics use the same lights? I was scouring a pull a part last Saturday and I almost bought the lights off an '87 CRX but realized in time that they didn't match, now I'm wondering if the Civics shared parts with other Civic models (sedan/wagon/hatch).

Also, would the fenders from any '87 Civic work on the hatchback?

Yes, he got in an accident. Nobody hurt and luckily it was the other guy's fault, but it's been a pain in the butt trying to find parts for a 23 year old Honda.

Thanks.

If there anything like the newer models, ya, you should be able to use different front end parts, as long as there the same year. you should be fine.

on the civic hatch, the '84 and '85 had a recessed headlight, and the corner light was designed to fit around it. For the '86 and '87 model years, they changed to a flush mounted headlight, and the corner light also changed because of it.

The corner light is also different between the hatch, sedan, and CRX.

So, to answer your question, you would have to get a corner light from an '86 or '87 Hatch only, but it could be any model grade hatch (Si or non-Si won't matter).

On a side-note, when you pull the corner light off the car, you remove the 2 screws on the side by the fender, then pull the light assembly straight FORWARD off the car, not to the side. There are 2 plastic tabs on the back that slide into a slot, and if you pull sideways at all, you risk breaking the tabs. Over the years they get brittle too. Finding those corner lights where a) the lens is not cracked, and b) both plastic tabs are unbroken, is a rare find. Try not to ruin them if you pull them off a junkyard car.

Thanks for the info. I spotted the tabs when I pulled the first one off. I've actually given him my '92 Civic and am taking his '87 as a extra car/project so at least I won't be in as much of a hurry. I really appreciate your inputs.
