boost that pyr
A friend of mine who owns a PYR teg wants to boost his stock motor. i used to have an ls teg but moved on to an STI so i still have an account on here and i want to help him out. He doesnt have too much of a burn for high hp but he wants to boost his stock c5 either sc or tc and i told him that he can piece together a turbo kit on a budget. you guys have any suggestions? any input would be awesome...

My setup
precision Sc50 turbo
RLZ 3mm headgasket
toda valve springs
880cc injectors
255lb fuel pump
mugen exhaust
EVERYTHING ELSE IS STOCK !!!!
You have to have a pretty high budget because something always goes wrong and you need to be prepared for things you think you might not need to worry about now. When I have the extra 10k the first thing I'm going to do is boost. When you go all motor you spend so much cash and get little gains, nothing against the NA guys but I want the power as well as the handling.
If you are on a budget, I suggest you go JRSC as you can find one for fairly cheap. $1500 or so.
If you are going to build a turbo kit, save your money and do it right the first time. You dont want to get an okay setup and have problems or when you want to upgrade, you have to change manifolds etc. You will run into more problems.

Boosted ITRs are fun, but it totally changes the dynamic of the car (for better or worse). I'd do a lot of research before you chose that path...

when i say budget build im not expecting it to be cheap and neither does he. really we want everything total under 4grand...
Exactly, you'd have to dump a boatload of cash to make it reliable both on the track and around town. Tell him to swap a b18c1 in and butcher that, I wouldn't boost a C5.
With 4k, you can build a decent turbo kit but its going to take more than that to buy quality parts unless you want to buy used.
Ram horn manifold (1000+),
Turbo (700+)
Hondata (500+)
Intercooler (500+)
Tuning (500+)
Just looking at those components not inluding BOV, waste gate, intercooler piping, oil pan, labor, etc etc. You are looking at over 4k IMO.
I have went through both JRSC setup and low and high power with turbo.
I have a wanted to turbo charge my ITR for quite some time and yes I got bit by the boost bug. But I'm starting to ask what it's worth even if I don't daily drive it. But if I do go the turbo route I have a C1 motor to use and abuse. My old SC was fun but bad tune = BOOM!!!
Just look here on HT. Do a little search and many for sales will come up. I recently sold my JRSC on here too for about that price.

You can definetely do it under 4 grand, especially if you can score some used parts. you don't HAVE to have a ram horn manifold either, something like a nice InlinePRO log manifold you can find for a couple hundred bucks used and i've seen plenty of them on cars that make over 500whp, granted they aren't as "good" as a quality ram horn, but it'll get the job done.
Also you can save some money by not going with Hondata. Hondata is awesome but with a small budget and as strict as 4k, save the money and go with Crome software on a p28, it may cost you in the neighborhood of $150 to find a p28 and have it chipped.
