What is the typical highway pace for a group of bikes on the hwy?
I attempted a group (15-20 riders) ride the other day and ended up bailing on the group due to the fact that I thought they were moving a bit faster (between 90-105mph) than I could care to go.
I'm not sure how police treat large groups of motorcycles traveling down the highway but I personally thought the pace was a bit to much.

It depends on the kind of riders/bikes.
I avoid large groups. They're a recipe for disaster, or boredom. I've been in a lot of group rides and never truly enjoy it. I hate having to be checking my mirrors every 2 seconds to see if the rider behind isn't riding way too close or is going to brake late and slam on me. Or having to ride at a really slow pace because I'm with a bunch of old dudes on cruisers, while cooking myself inside my gear (and they don't care because they don't rock gear and full face lids.
I prefer to just go out by myself or a really small group (Max 3 bikes). And I only ride with people that I have great confidence. People that we don't even need too much communication, we just know to give each one of us our space and we don't need some sign language to understand each other. We just "click", you know? It's hard to find those kind of riders.
You did well ditching them. Ride your own pace man. Don't go out of your comfort zone.

two pointers i can give you here...ride with people that share your interest in just cruising, and if you do happen to get chased by da popo dont come in last

I try to stay out of huge groups... they become unruly and he collective breeds competitive spirits which can be not only illegal but down right dangerous. everything from the accordion effect to how the police look at you is magnified by large groups. when one person does something dumb it reflects on all those within the group.
we've gone over this many times before, but I really dont want to get taken out by some rider in my group because he wasn''t paying attention or riding over his head.
From 2-6 riders is perfect

I never rode faster than what I would drive in a car 75-80 mph. I wouldn't ride in a group of 20. Keeping everyone together sux. As previously mentioned 2 to 6 would be ideal.

yeah the large groups are too dangerous for my liking too, too many hot headed morons that want to be the fastest in the group. its really annoying when people keep flying by you inches away to get to the front of the pack. the last time i went riding with a big group people were doing burnouts at the red lights downtown and riding around in 2nd gear at 9k, it got old pretty fast, not to mention they only ride between the "hang out" spots where they can show off their bikes. I prefer to ride by myself or with 1 other friend so long as they ride similarly to me.
Depends on the conditions. Speed limits are 120km/h, I do roughly that or slightly above at about 130ish on highway, but its much about traffic too, if theres heavy traffic I'll be more defensive than aggressive as it gives more margin to avoid sudden situations.
Regular roads mostly 80kph limit, I do 80-100 and then in town I ride mainly according to limit as theres peds and other crazies :D

the guys i've been cruising around with usually do about 5 over. if we do hit a stretch of highway, we usually run it up for about 1/2 a mile before turning on a country road.
cruising at 90-105 with that many riders is asking for a disaster

most highway speed limits around here are 65, i usually do 80mph by myself or in a group.
and i usually wont ride in a group bigger than 4-5. i prefer 2-3 max

I agree, If youre going to ride in a group, Its much better to know the other riders and how they ride, Ive been on a few big group rides but i just hang out in the back and let the nuts do their thing,
I have a close group that i ride with.4 guys including myself. We have our mapped out trips that we go on and we all know the certain spots we like to rip on it. Im comfortable with flying past them or then flying past me to play tag. Sometimes it gets a bit wild, But honestly i dont own a sport bike to put around in 6th gear doing exactly the speed limit.
Riding on the highways sucks anyway, Its fun for about 5 miles.

I coulden't agree more. Riding with large groups of people is uncomfortable to me. Riding with other people is like playing in a band, you want to know each others characteristics so you flow better.
I have ridden in several large groups, and like posted above, 2-8 is a good group size. Ride at a pace that makes you comfortable (if the group is on a different pace, just have a meet up spot every so often), never ride over your head and hell, get off the highway!
Find some good backroads and enjoy the ride.
