Default 4 speed to 5 speed

My friend just picked up a 1990 EF Civic Hatch. It has a d16y8 swapped with a 4 speed trans. Its grinds into 3. So I have a trans at my house that we can swap that is a 5 speed. My question is what is needed to go from 4 to a 5 speed?

everything drops out and bolts in.

may have some axle seal swapping to do depending on what trans/axle/seal combo you have going on.

(seals as per axle obviously. but trans may have XXX seal and car has YYY axle)

any rate.. if trans fluid (5w30) leaks when you put it together.. pull the seals out of the old trans and put them in the 5spd.

D-Series inner axles seals EXCEPT DOHC ZC are all the same.

Use 10w30 motor oil, 2 quarts.

WHat year is the 5 speed tranny out of. I ran into the problem where I had an 88 tranny and needed the clutch and flywheel to make it fit in my 91 hatch. 88=20 splines you will need the clutch and fly wheel to make it work
89=21 splines " " " " " "
90-91=22 splines

See this handy chart for figuring out which clutch you need:
