do you guys buy oem or what? I dont want shitty struts , I have seen alot of pics with EM1's that have crazy ride height , as in high , and some that have very uneven ride height , I just want the closest to OEM without having to spend 800 dollars.

 

its called the Honda dealership. you will not find anything better or worth buying. if you want a nice suspension (aftermarket) that has an adjustable ride height, buy a nice set of coilovers

 

I already have koni yellows / GC's ...but if I bring up the ride height , its still gonna ride the same wont it? I have them on semi firm with 45 series tires and lowered about 2.5 fingers from the tire , and right now I dont really like the ride too much unless I am doing 60 around a nice hefty corner.

 

i personally like a firm ride. a stock suspension just feels awkward to me. i say keep the GC/Koni's. i have heard nothing but positive feedback from that product

 

I have koni yellows with tein s techs and the ride is fairly stockish, just a little harsher. If you have the konis on soft and the spring rates aren't too high, it'll ride fine. Want to trade springs haha? Cash on my end...

 

Your problem isn't you shocks or ride height, broseph. It's your spring rates.

Yes Tein S Techs (softer rates, linear spring as opposed to linear coil-over spring on Ground
Controls) and turning those Konis down to full soft would definitely help smooth out your ride.

To answer your question about who makes stock Honda shocks for that car:

...but KYB makes an excellent replacement OEM style shock, their GR-2, and I've used them with Tein S Techs on a few daily drivers of mine. Rode mostly stock, but stiffens up in turns (due to progressive spring rates - they tighten as they are compressed) so it handled well too.

Ground Control spring rates are a good bit higher than stock rates, plus they are linear meaning they will ride rougher compared to progressive rates (I explained that earlier) too.

Ride quality is mostly determined by the relation ship between shock AND spring. Too soft a shock with too hard a spring = bouncy ride. Too stiff a shock with soft springs = overdamped and non responsive handling with "stiff" ride. Get the combination right by matching the rates with the dampening ability of the shock, and it will ride excellent even at much lower than factory ride height.

Believe it or not this car rides amazingly smooth even at it's drastically lower-than-stock ride height:



...because the suspension was designed to work perfectly together. Spring rates and dampers are matched, thus it rides awesome, yet handles well too.



You don't have to sacrifice the ability to ride with less wheel/fender gap for a good ride. you just have to know what's needed, and be willing to pay more money for the really great stuff.

 

Going full soft on those Ground Controls will likely make the ride BOUNCY.

You need softer springs with ideally progressive rates and THEN run the Konis on full soft.

 

KYB GR-2s are perfect OEM replacements. They offer great dampening abilities and make the car feel 100x better. I had them on my ex GF's car paired with progressive Gold line springs and the car rode amazing like you have no idea.

 

OEM shocks probably won't dampen as well as an aftermarket shock. And those GC springs will break in a little after a while. They feel a little hard at first, but they'll soften up and it will still feel firm, but I think it's not too bad and the handling is worth it.

Turn the shocks down, give it a while, you'll probably or at least hopefully change your mind. If not, many other people will probably gladly buy them.

OTS should ride very nicely.

my koni's and GC's were already on the car when I got it , so they are used , right now the car rides pretty well for a lowered car but I really want a like stock ride. I want that new car feeling , my motor is fresh so it runs superb only complaint is the suspension and 16 inch wheels(preffer 15's)
