Well, this is the 2nd time i have blown my K20 5 speed trans within 2,000 miles. I knew these things had issues, but this is by far the worst ive ever had to deal with. I had better luck when i was running on D series transmissions.
Car is an EG hatch, boosted Z1, 5 speed trans, quaiffe LSD, had been rebuilt less than 500 miles ago. First time it blew, the first gear syncro and gear edges knurled and left a burr on the gear and syncro so i could not get into first. Now my second gear syncro is trashed, and it sounds like some bearings are trashed on the inside. I havent pulled it apart yet to see what happened.
I dont want to keep dealing with these tranny issues, what are you guys doing to beef up these transmission?? Anybody sell hardened syncros or gears or something thats an upgrade from OEM that can handle the HP and abuse better than the stock stuff? Preferably cheaper than that dogbox stuff

We are working on it. The carbon synchros are in production, we have finished the testing of the prototypes and have ordered the tooling. The projected release date is 11/2010
K-series have proven over the years to have notably weak 2nd and 4th gears in comparison to some of the previous transmissions. Either start testing out heat treating and/or cryo treating the gears and see what you can come up with, or save up for a PPG or MFactory gear set depending on your power level to resolve some of the gear stregth issues.
Synchrotech, great to hear! Are all of the synchros for the K-series you offer going to be carbon lined? E.G., will the triple cone synchros also be carbon???

yea its more of a syncro issue im dealing with, not the gears themselves...
i will definately be looking into the heavier duty syncros, just gotta find me a new trans.
