It depends on which distributor you had and which one you got. The main difference between OBD1 and OBD2 distributors is that the newer one has all the same wires but contained into one plug instead of two plugs. The other difference is VTEC vs non VTEC, one of the internal sensors is slightly different.

The legs of the dizzy housing are different so it doesn't mount proper, that is why. Some people do cheesy things and cut a leg or two off with it only partially mounted

As far as OBDI and OBDII dizzy's go, they are the same internally. As already mentioned, obdI has two plugs, obdII has a single larger plug, but the wires are exactly the same, even color for color

I've heard people say you can mix and match but I've also come across a thread (on another forum) that had shown the internal difference between the VTEC and non VTEC distributor. If you mix and match, I believe the car will run but you'll have a CEL because of that one sensor. I think the physical piece is 180 degrees out on the internal shaft and the thread did show a way to correct it. Technically I guess the sensor is the same it just picks up the signal differently because that one piece is 180 degrees off.

EDIT: and Deetz did bring up a good point. Z6 dizzy only fits the Z6 head properly unless you run it on two bolts or chop off a leg...

EDIT2: here's the thread in case anyone wants to get educated

wierd part is i got a dizzy off of a y7 i think and it looked just like the one i have internaly but with one less connector, the cyp was identical and i marked everything so it went back together the same way it came apart but it still seems not to be timed right any ideas?

dunno if there is a difference for b-series distributors but their appears to be for d

http://www.d-series.org/forums/gener...th-busted.html

if you read through the whole thread you'll see they still don't fully agree on the difference really meaning anything because it seems some people are running non-vtec d-series dizzy's on vtec engines, and vice versa. so i dunno what to think
