ever get stumped with a jumping speedo or high rpm bogs?
there really isn't much that stumps me with automotive repair but i did recently run into a head scratcher. every now and again when i would take off in 1st gear and punch it the speedo would bounce up a good 20mph if the engine was between 5800 and 8400rpm, strange relation to vtec and redline right? weirder still would be a high rpm miss that only took place above 7000rpm and this only happened some of the time.
what did i do? troubleshot the vss, cap, rotor, coil, plugs
no change in action.
here comes the crazy part. the battery still tested correct with voltage BUT was leaking around the terminals which created the blue acid fuzz. about then i had a flashback to a corvette i tuned awhile back that misfired above 6000. the problem, energy delivery to the cylinder. an msd box fixed the vette but what about the integra. back to the battery, i "borrowed" a new one from a friends shop, put it in, drove around, no more miss and no more jumping speedo. this was just an odd one since everything tested out but apparently there were either voltage fluctuations or amperage delivery problems in the system. anyway, if you get stumped with any of the above, remember this nifty little thread.
