Where the hell are the spark plugs on a 2004 honda accord? What do i need to remove to gain access to them...?

On the same topic, i have less than 35k on my car. Do i need to even bother replacing them? Or is it case by case basis, after looking at the plugs for signs of significant deterioration?

 

I dont think at 35k you need to replace unless you are suffering some performance or mileage issues. please refer to your owners manual for service intervals

 

Thanks - that's good advice. I just looked at my manual for the maintenance schedule, and it's not up for replacement until 105K miles! I also had in mind to change the AT fluid, but that's also after over 100k miles.

I guess i'm not working on my car this weekend...

Most newer cars list 100k for spark plugs . Personally I think I will replace or at least check gap condition at 60k and 90k and evaluate from there .

Your good to go for at least 2x+ what you have .

 

I have 80k on my 03 V6, and I haven't changed the plugs yet, but I already have some new ones so I'm itching to do it. Personally, I would not wait until 100k miles to change the transmission fluid. Use "long life iridium tipped plugs" either NGK or Denso brand plugs. You can get the NGK plugs from just about any parts store, for about $10/plug. I only use Honda ATF-Z1 in the transmission, which is only available from a Honda dealer.

 

Agreed on both issues. I just don't trust Honda Automatics anymore... better to be safe than sorry.

 

Right, that 100k is another 100k no maintenance marketing thing IMO . I would replace at half that at least .
Have you pulled any of plugs to see how they look in 80 k ?

Also on plugs get factory replacements, don't try an go cheaper with something like Bosh Platinum , had bad experiences with them over the yrs .

 

I pulled a couple of plugs out at maybe 60k miles, and they still looked pretty good. The engine still runs as smooth as ever. I will at least check them again soon, and unless they still all look great, I will replace them. I have heard stories of plugs seizing in the aluminum heads over long periods of time, so I plan to use anti-seize and torque them to specification.

Follow manual for plug replacement interval.

Service the trans every 60K.

 

I know as a universal rule is that A/T trans fluid should be changed around every 30k miles because so much friction is cause by torque converter and M/T trans fluid is like 100k miles.
