Default Brake Squeaking

My brakes were fine until after a weekend of hard braking. Now my brakes sound like a school bus stopping. Is there anyway to make the brakes squeal less? I have Hawk HP+, is squeaking just a characteristic of these pads? I made sure to apply brake grease between the shims and pad when I installed them too.

I dunno, what do they look like? Those circular things on the backing of the pad?

The squeal tabs are a metal tab that touches the rotor when the pad material is worn down to where they need to be replaced. Some pads (including most stock pads) have them, some aftermarket pads don't.

Have you checked the thickness of the pads? It's possible that you need to replace them.

They are a week old. So i dont think they are the wear indicators. I only put 60-70 track miles on them so I dont think that would wear them out to the indicators.

Yeah, you're right. Maybe those pads just squeak and there's not much you can do about it.

Did you try putting anti-squeal goop on the back of the brake pads when you changed them?

Try putting more of that stuff on. You've got nothing to lose except a half hour or so of your time.

they are going to squeek. there really isn't any getting around that. Just get used to it.

Try pumping the brakes once or twice when they are squeeking, sometimes that helps me..

Listen to everyone that said they are going to squeek. Its what those pads do. I run the HP+ and except for when I'm REALLY on the brakes they squeek. Every one I've talked to has this... Just wait till you see the amount of dust that they put out!

aside from anti-squeek, when you wash your car, spray into the brake pads/calipers. this will remove brake dust and can often stop squeeking after some hard braking. my brakes squeek horribly after an auto-x, but after i spray out the dust, the squeeking is gone (until the next event that is).

Hawk HP+s: run them, love them, great autocross pad, the dust from these SOBs will own you, say goodbye to ever having clean wheels on your car again...

and yes, they squeek
