Yeah, I got Bilsteins and had to whack the forks into place from the bottom, with a mallet, at least on one side...it was such a tight fit that it stripped the paint off the bottom of the shock. I don't ever want to have to do that again, it was a PITA. But now I have to think about the fact that since there's no paint on the bottom of the shock, it could rust. Not good.

wait, so your problem is you can't get the fork to slide into position on the shock? solution: grease, a couple of whacks with a hammer.

err....are you sure the "tab" is lined up perfectly with the slot in the fork?...even with a mallet it shouldnt take that much hitting...i did koni yellows in my teg and it wasnt too bad...dont feel to bad about the washer thing...did the same thing long long ago...IMO the rears are usually harder to install
