So my engine and tranny are out of the car and suspended by an engine hoist. I used the mounting locations stated in the helms. So one side of the hoist is attached to the transmission and the other side on the engine head. So how can I separate the two without setting the engine on the ground which will crush the oil pan and damage the oil pickup?
My real question is how can I set the engine on the ground to separate the tranny without crushing the oil pan?

Resting it on the oil pan will not crush the pan unless you drop it rapidly from the hoist. Lower the hoist slowly, rest swap on the ground, proceed to seperate trans. GL.

Cool thanks for the info. I just knew that oil pans are super easy to dent so I didn't think it could handle the weight of the engine.
you have to put it on the ground no matter what you do....OLD TIRE FTW....put the oil pan in the tire so its supported then there is about 8-10 bolts that hold on the trans. take them all out then wiggle the trans around till it begins to come off. then reverse to put trans on.

get a pry bar in there and or large screwdriver and it will pop right off.

Oh thanks guys I had no problemsgetting the bolts off. I was just concerned with the oil pan. I also saw a lot of people use the old tire but I didn't have one. I set it down on tHe ground did my work and now my longblock is on the engine stand woot.
