Default emissions help

I have a b16a in my civic and it just failed emissions:

I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor, and catalytic converter before going for the test. Anybody ever have similar problems or advice??

use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, turned down to 25 psi, use ZFR4F-11 NGK plugs (they're the hottest heat range plugs). And that should do it. I passed the sniffer here in cali with a b16, new cat, MSD SCI ignition, NGK ZFR4F-11 plugs, and FPR turned down. She blew cleaner than the stock HF motor. Good Luck

I passed my B18c1 by running it thru with my stock si ECU and dropping a liter of methyl hydrate into a full tank of gas. Passed no problem at all.

I don't know if it is stricter but this is the first motor that I have failed I passed a ZC a while ago. Thanks for the help.

what polution did u fail?its probably o2 sensor or egr valve.use 93 octane.also take off a vaccum line off the intake manifold cap off that line take a spare piece of vaccum line run it to the spot you just pulled off the intake manifold put about a quarter of a bottle of transmission fluid in a small jar.put the spare piece of vaccum in the trans fluid strat the car w/the vaccum line in the trans fluid rev the engine to about 5grand there should be a ton of smoke coming out of the tail pipe keep the engine up at 5 grand til it stops smoking then hook the vaccum line back up.then put the rest of the trans fluid in the engine oil.run for about a week then get the oil changed.the engine internals are all cleaned now.run for about a week using fuel injector cleaner.

i failed mine today.

Hydrocarbons (HC):
standard: 220.00 ppm
vehicle results: 446.05 ppm **Failed**

Carbon Monoxide (CO):
standard: 1.20%
vehicle results: 0.39% **Passed**

I'm guessing its the Primary o2 sensor. Since, on the way home got a CEL for the primary o2. A friend of mine is bringing me another one tomorrow. Then I'll go give it a shot.

Last I checked, you can't have an adjustable fpr for CA smog. What about other states?

You might want to try cleaning out your TB / Intake manifold with some carb cleaner. You'd be surprised how dirty it is in there.

any problems by running a stock SI ECU with the B16 all wired up? i figure that if the vtec solenoid, switch, and knock sensor are all wired into the ecu plugs, the SI computer might get a wrong signal?? does the SI computer just have weak fuel and timing maps?

Well I'm active duty in the Marine Corps so I have the my car registered with Hawaii. They only thing the smog ref wants to see with my car is that it's clean. So even when he looked at the motor and mods he didn't care. For the record military out of state smogs are not reported to dmv, however to obtain a base sticker you have to pass emmisions testing in Cali. So looking at my smog sheet, and forgive me if I f*%k this up since I know nothiung about how to read this, but here it goes

%CO2 idle-meas 14.9
2500 rpm-meas 14.9

%O2 idle-meas 0.0
2500 rpm-meas 0.0
HC idle-max 120, ave 0029, meas 17
2500 rpm-max 140, ave 0020, meas 19

CO idle-max 1.00, ave 00.10, meas 0.00
2500 rpm-max 1.00, ave 00.10, meas 0.01

Results: PASS

Once again this is a Cali smog sheet, so if any one know how to translate please do so. On my wifes CRX it was 90 JDM b16, Tanabe Hyper-medallion exhaust, new cat, MSD SCI ignition, MSD wires, ZFR4F-11 NGK plugs, FPR (@25psi), Timing stock. Also make sure that on your ECU you swap the purge cut-off solenoid from it stocks location A6 to A10. This was intresting since I paid close attention to the JDM clips off of a PR3 ecu and A6 had no terminal, but A10 did, now I found that on the HF wiring A10 pin is for the EGR and the on the Si it the Fast Idlve solenoid. B16 don't have an EGR or a Fast Idle solenoid. So hmmmm, I've wondered why no one else found this out.
