Default Help Adjust my Throttle Cable so it idles correctly.

ok, i try to adjust my throttle cable screws cause it was bogging badly. now, i cant seem to get it to where I want it to stay at. right now, its idling at 1500k. I want it to idle around 1000k. whats the proper way to adjust it? everytime i rev it, it dont stay at a steady rpm, it moves up then slowing move back down. should i move the screw to the right alittle more to get that perfect rev?

Try closing it all the way and then slowly open it to see if your idle will drop. There might be other things that are messing with your idle as well.

The proper way is not to use the throttle cable to adjust idle. There is a screw on the throttlebody to adjust idle speed. If that doesn't work there is a throttle stop on the throttlebody also. The Idle Air Control valve is what allows the computer to control the idle speed.

Im referring to the idle screw. The throttle cable should be set so your tb does not open while at idle.

you adjust idle from the bottom screw (allen) under the throttle bodie.

?

are you talking about the throttle rotor bump stop?

idle is adjusted with the idle screw which is almost always on the top of the TB with a flat head slot, never an Allen head. using the throttle stop to adjust would have the same effect as using the cable. it is set from the factory and should really never need adjustment unless the TB is disassembled/rebuilt.

OP: do it right or expect continued problems. now's a good time to buy a service manual if you don't have one yet. follow the procedure for proper idle adjustment.

This!

The throttle cable nuts are only to take slack out from between the bracket and the TB. This is so there is no hesitation when you press the accelerator pedal.
