Have you checked the condition of the distributor cap?

Sometimes a headgasket failure can cause misfires during startup and for a short time after until the coolant that has leaked into the cylinder overnight has cleared out.

Don't confuse a suggestion for diagnostics.

As you say, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. You need to diagnose it. I was only throwing that out there as an idea.

It's not really hard to do yourself. Torque specs are important.

Coolant in the combustion chamber? bro you got a bad head gasket and or a warped head
but one other thing... if the coolant is only in number four ill bet its the intake mani. gasket.

yes whatever you take apart. if it has a gas. replace it
the only thing i have gotten away wih but i wouldnt advise it (unless its metal, and it still should be done) is the exhaust mani gasket
