Default OEM vs ARP/GE MAIN STUDS!!

im almost done with my build and while checking clearances and torquing the mains 2 of them make tha loud screeching like when they are over stretching...my question is oem are 40 bucks for the set...i was thinking about going with studs but i hear you have to align hone the block if u do...so i might just buy a new set of oem main bolts...but if anybody can confirm that i can use arp/ge then i might go that route...

keep your oem bolts and use a good moly lube on the threads and under the head. arp makes a good lube.

no need for main studs on most n/a builds

I'm in the same quandry, but have gone for new oem bolts in the end. Don't want to mess up the alignment from the extra clamping force of the ARPs just incase

yes arp does recomend more tq be applied when using their lube compared to regular oil. i wouldnt worry too much about that at this point though.

first of all i would oil up your current bolts and make sure the threads in the block are CLEAN. then run them down by hand. if you have too much trouble running them down by hand then there is a problem somewhere. either the bolts have stretched (unlikely unless they have been overtourqed) or you still have garbage in the block threads. or the threads could be damaged.

use a small light and look at the threads in the block closely. make sure they are clean and good. also dont dump alot of oil down into the threads, it will only give you trouble running the bold down into the hole since theres nowhere for the oil to go.

when you oil or lube the bolts just make sure the threrads are coated and the underside of the head as well as the washer are all coated. not too much to where its dripping off, but coated.

when cleaning the threads in the block it helps to turn the block over and have the mains facing down so you can spray into the holes and used compressed air w/ a stick to get in there and blow them out. you prolly have alot of junk in the threads.
