Default Removing the 97R shift ****?

How exactly do you remove the OEM USDM 97R shift ****? Do you have to take apart the entire center console as described here as if you were going to change the shift boot? Or is there an easier way?

Searched the forums, only got the 'remove shift boot' thread, not shift ****.

it should just twist off from the thread, or it might be held down by a bolt/clip right under the ****

tried that but either i'm not twisting enough or it doesn't work. and if it is held down by a bolt/clip, would i need to take apart the center console? the shift boot is flush with the base of the ****.

EDIT: is it anything like a prelude shift ****? https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-prelude-4/how-remove-ths-shift-knob-97-honda-prelude-882951/ if it is, how do i turn that plastic ring? i'm trying and it doesn't really budge.

you rock the boot back and forth pulling down. its clipped into the ****. unscrew the ****. remove front part of center console. undo the 2-4 screws holding the boot in. remove boot and clip it back into the **** and throw it in a spot to save it never to use/see it again LOL.
