Default Remove shift boot

Aaarrrggg! Search still isn't working....

OK, how do I remove the shift boot? I have startd to pry the plastic up with a flat head, and it looks like if I just keep using more force, it will come up. I can start to see the edges of where the actual boot is attached to the metal frame, but that frame looks wider than the plastic piece. Is this the correct way, or is there a right/better way. I just don't want to break things.

Thanks, in advance for any help.

If you keep pulling it out that way it will most likely snap/break some of the plastic and there are two screws up in front you have to remove anyway. To take it out you need to remove the whole center console. There are a few threads about this in the search, but since its down right now......

On eitherside of the center console compartment (between the seats) there is a philips head screw and two more under the little pop-out cover undernieth the e-brake handle. With those out, you can lift out the rear section.

Then, there is a screw on eitherside of the front section in the very front of the remaining console. Remove those. Take out your ashtray and you will find two more behind it. With those out you can then pull out the piece the ashtray fits into with the lighter/power outlet attached to it.Then you will find two more screws behind it on either side at the top of the opening you just made.

You can now remove the whole remaining console after removing the shift **** and you'll then see how to easily remove the boot. Hope this helps

I'm bored and feel like helping tonight.

Well that is pretty much the best explanation I've heard. Thank you very much.
Sorry you're bored, but thanks for the help.

Behind the ashtray there are 3 screws, not 2.

Pm sent. Begin at page 945.

The illustrations should be fairly straightforward.

Edit: I just realized this is for a '97. I'm seven away at #50.

you only need to remove the 2 outer ones though. The 3rd just holds the ashtray bracket/slider/rails into the part with the lighter on it.
