My oil pan bolt does not want to come off for shyt. I have used all my might in this and so did my friends. Can someone tell me a way to get this thing off please. The previous owner that had this seem to not change the oil for a long time and now the car smokes up like something crawled in the engine and died. Someone please help me...

 

your oil drain bolt or the bolts that hold your oil pan?

if to drain, get the rachet and fit it on, then get a hollow metal pipe and put the pipe over the rachet handle. the extra leverage should help.

careful not to strip anything, if it doesn't come off, you can always pull the oil pan off and replace it, that would be the safest thing to do if the bolt won't come out.

I had to get a transmission bolt off my '91 once the hard way. I had already tried all the above methods. as well as liquid wrench, tapping with a hammer, etc. Unless you have air tools (the best way to do it) you can try this way:

(first of all, go buy a new bolt. You're gauranteed to strip and/or maul it this way and they're only like 35 cents from the dealer)

1. torch it - heat up the area around the bolt, not the bolt itself, that will expand the metal so the bolt can loosen. (make sure to clean off any oil residue so you don't set the car on fire.)

2. get some vice grips and tighten them onto that bolt as much as you can (this is where the mauling happens)

3. tap vice-grip handle gently with hammer in loosening direction.

4. repeat until bolt comes loose.

Ok so torching sounds scary and it is. use this as a last resort.

 

That's what I had in mind and that's what I'm afraid of...

 

My bolt got stuck on my oil pan as well. It felt as though the previous changer had used air tools to tighten it. I put an open ended wrench, the proper size of course, onto the bolt and laid on my side underneath my car. I gave my leg some room to move foward and back, lined up my foot to the opposite end of the wrench, and kicked it once. The bolt wasn't stripped, it came undone enough to lossen it the rest of the way, and I haven't had the problem since. I tried using the hollow metal rod for leverage trick, but there wasn't enough clearance under the car to get a full rotation. Kicking always seems to help when in doubt.

 

if you dont want to rist stripping or breaking anything take it to your nearest jiffy lube or what ever and have them do it for 20 bucks save you the effort and if they break it they fix it
other wise use the cheater bar
