Default Valve cover gasket wont come off

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been covered somewhere....
my valve cover was super hardened and I had to use a small screw driver and about 40 minutes to get it off. Now I put some very small scratches at the bottom of the groove.... just going to cross my fingers and hope that doesn't become an issue.

Now I am trying to get the spark plug seals off and they are so incredibly hardened that they are coming off in little pieces(i mean really little) and if I keep using a small screw driver I am definitely going to damage something.

Is there any way to soften the gasket? Any tips? Should I just go to a junk yard and buy a new valve cover?

I use a propane torch on the other side of the gasket and then take pliers and roll the gasket up like spagetti.
