need stainless flange welded to cast manifold.

this is what i want. i was here a while ago, and dont quite have room for an adapter flange, but would have room welding the fange to the manifold. flange is the tial stainless flange. manfiold is a high quality cast, and the manufactuer routinley welds wastegate flanges to it.
i was going to try using 309 rod, and tap the welds with a hammer after about an inch, and wait about an hr before i progressed, so about 3 hours total to weld the diameter.
what do you all think?
can u try to find a mild steel flange?
i just worry about the stainless expanding and contracting, etc.
ive been lucky so far, with just mig welding cast to mild, pre-heat the cast and go to town with as much wire and heat as my welder can put out.
sorry i wish i knew more about stainless to cast. hopefully an OG can chime in

what kind of nickle rod? i went to prax air and they heard of it, but diddnt have it and cant get it. where do you buy it?
You would pickup Ni99 or Ni55 and knock off the flux on it.
I've heard of some using 309l in a pinch (since its cheaper and readily available). I personally don't have experience with using that filler on cast though.
Preheat and postheat in the oven slowly.
Good luck!

Do you have room to bolt on a turbo flange and then weld to that? It could be 3/8 thick and then it wouldn't be permanent or require any special welding.
thats actually what i ended up doing.

the flange warped slightly. i tried to weld it on with the flange bolted on, but i couldnt work the torch in there by the nuts and diddnt want to risk welding a nut on.
i hope it fits!

this is what the manifold looks like thats MADE for the tial housing with the flange machined on the cast manifold. I just got such a good deal on this manifold, i couldnt pass it up. the company doesnt sell the Vbanded manfiold by itself, only the t25 and t3 flanged ones.
