Default welding manifold....

Hey guys, I need to weld a base flange for the wastegate outlet pipe. The manifold is a stainless steel. What I wanna know is, can I just weld it with any type of material or do I HAVE TO use stainless steel to weld it?

Get it MIG or TIG welded. ARC welding requires a special rod to weld stainless to other steels and you have to be a good welder to get it right.

If the flange is just regular steel and the pipe is stainless you should weld them togeather with stainless rod useing TIG welding. If the flange is cast iron and the pipe is stainless then you can try useing stainless rod, but nickle rod may work better. And you can weld it useing TIG or ARC. The problem is the heating and cooling rate of the two metals, and that stainless tends to pull as it cools. I recommend after welding you have them wrap the two in a ceramic blanket or tin foil and let it cool down as slow and evenly as possible to avoid cracking. Good Luck!
