Hey guys, i drive an 2000 si and its wont start. I went to leave my house last night and it started but felt like it was running on three cylinders and then all of a sudden it died... went to turn it back over and it started to crank and crank and the crank got slower so i figured it was the battery seeing how it was about five years old. I hooked it up and went to start it, it started to crank and crank and crank but still wont start, so it's not the battery. When I was putting the battery in I noticed one of the cables wasnt connected to the cap... so i connected it thinking that had to have been the problem, well it isn't. I replaced my cap and rotor about 4 months ago and even pulled it off again just to double check it and everything looks fine.... i'm stumped! any help would be awesome!

have you checked to see if you were gettin spark

 

Start by checking spark and listening for whether the fuel pump primes. Any CEL codes?

 

Check your ground wires also

 

stock motor?
mods?
stock ecu? try a different ecu

 

fuel pump primes and ground wires are fine, but it doesn't appear to be getting spark.

and yes stock motor and ecu, i even tried resetting the ecu wondering if for some odd reason that was it.

 

If it was running rough and now you dont have spark, it may have been your coil or ignitor going out.

 

yeah, anyone know if ignition coils are universal throughout hondas? or they specific for b16s?

 

1) Check whether dash fuse 9 is blown and whether the distributor gets battery voltage.

2) Check whether the timing belt snapped.

3) Resistance test the coil.

4) Have an auto parts store test the ICM.

 

oh and i never checked codes but ill do that tomorrow when i got some light, thanks for the help guys, ill let you know what i figure out

 

i replaced the coil and still nothing... it doesnt even sound like its really trying to crank over its making some other higher pitch noise... and when i go to check codes the check engline light just stays on while i have the paperclip in there. am i not doing it right? help please

 

well i had my brother go out and try to jump me and it was making the same sound so i tried giving it some gas and kept cranking it and it finally started up and sounds good... hopefully it stays that way
