blown-itr...turbo?
I bought a jdm 98 spec itr swap for my ek hatch enjoyed it for a year then it started eating oil bad so i took the block apart to put new rings and found the i have 3 cracked pistons...already had plans for boost so this just accelerated things things! lol... need suggestions on set-ups.... have been reading through the FAQ's but confused about some stuff. things to keep in mind i want to dd this car to college which is 60mile round trip so mpg is on the back of my mind:
1. dsm injectors are 440cc, i heard they run at 240cc while not in boost is this correct and if so what hp numbers will they limit me to?
2. mini ramhorn a/c p/s compatible turbo mani, am i gonna be limited to what size turbo?
3. looking to run cp 9.0:1 piston eagle rods do i need to re-sleeve, how high will the stock sleeves handle
4. itr tranny has short gears, should i swap it for an ls , or rebuilt it with ls 4th and 5th... write ups?
have a hp goal of 350-400hp, car is still all apart and everything is still in zip locks and boxs so anything is game!!!

for 350-400hp I'm pretty sure you can just use stock bottom end, it will give you much better performance out of boost,
As far as the injectors the 440's (or any other injector) will not be outputting their full capacity unless you're setup is maxing them out.
The max output is what limits the HP potention 440cc injectors should be good for max 400hp (maybe a little less).
As far as turbo size... again for 400hp max you don't want a huge turbo... you'd be better off with one that gets into boost at lower RPM.

Actually, out of boost the ITR setup would be lacking vs an LS or GSR head, unless it's out of boost past 7500rpm. At that rpm the turbo hits boost quick enough to not tell a difference.
If you're planning on DD'ing it, lower compression, and change the tranny...just trade it for a tired GSR + cash. Then you get the money to build it up, longer gears for DD'ing, and better mid-range with the IM on the GSR. I've had several tuners tell me GSR cams are the best for boost up to 500 whp (the exact amount depends who you ask). If you want that topend back, get a different IM for it and you've got a perfect setup for DD'ing with boost.
I would not suggest dumping all that money into it and using DSM injectors, however. Especially not for over 300hp.

i thought the gsr IM wont fit on a itr head and vise verse... wouldn't the itr IM be better than the gsr for boost since it has a higher flow capacity? ....the gsr tranny sounds good i guess its best of both worlds not tooo long of gears not too short what rpm is the gsr in 5th gear stock.....and ya the only way i was gonna use the dsm injectors is if they ran at 240 while not in boost for fuel consumption but i guess no one has heard of that?...deffinatly building the bottom end don't want to go back and have to re-due this later on or even worse throw a rod!
sugesstions on turbo? for 9.0: 1 pistons itr cams

No matter what injectors you use they will not be putting out their max capacity.
The DSM's don't run at 240 out of boost and 400 in or anything like that... ALL injectors run at a duty cycle... xx percent of the max capacity depending on various conditions.
You could have a 1200 hp engine and get 30mpg if you didn't get on it at all... Your fuel consumption is determined by how often you push the gas peddle... not what kind of injectors you have.
There are lots of people who run 1000cc injectors that NEVER EVER EVER put out more than 500cc... because they're running at max 50pct duty cycle.
The poster above me was suggesting you trade your ITR head/intake for a GSR head/intake... it will give you better cams and intake manifold for a turbo set up... and the ITR stuff would be desirable to someone staying NA.
It sounds to me like you should do a TON of reading before you make any decisions. Don't jump in and start buying things like DSM injectors before you really know your plan back and forth... chances are the DSM's aren't your best bet... for a little more you could get Precision Injectors that you don't need to run resistors on or lots of other options.
Try to find some build threads that match your goals and read them all the way through.. what seems like a great oportunity to quickly go ahead with your turbo charging dreams can end up the blind entrance into a 2-3 year odessey.

well i dont want u to take this the wrong way but this happened a year ago and i have been reading here and at home made turbo which for the most part is just a collection of honda-tech threads.....i appreciate the advise and all your input but there is no way that iam gonna put the bottom end back together stock and end being on those people saying is should have spent the extra 2-300 bucks when i throw a rod or crack a sleev....i guess a also failed to mention that i want to build my car to have more top end but yet still have a decent bottom end power thats my delema most people on here have here or there and thats what iam trying to figure out....thats y all sugeestions are welcome....again thanks for any help or points in the right direction
