Default Automatic tranny, is it supposed to be flush with the engine?

I was just bolting up my 93 civic dx tranny to my new 97 civic ex motor and noticed there was about a space 1/8" big between the two. Is this normal? Did I not align it correctly? Is there any way to test and see if things are good before I install the whole motor to find out the space needs to be closed? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it should be flush. Check to see if you are crushing any wires or dowel pins etc.
