Hot engine stalling out
I just recently bought my first honda car. It is a 93 accord 10 anniversary edition. I have replaced all of the fluids, new spark plugs, wires, and air filter. I have noticed a problem that did not occure when I test drove the car. When the engine is hot you put it in gear to idel, out of a parking spot, sometimes it has the tendancy to die. I am wondering what may be causing this to happen. I have read on the site that it may be a bubble in the coolent, a bad or dirty iacv, or the fitv. I am not sure where to start to figure out this problem. Any help would be great, because I drive around 2 small kids in south texas heat. Thanks!!
The idle speed drops to low and it stalls out. It has only seemed to happen after a long hot trip around town in 100 degree weather. It is an automatic tran. as well if that makes a difference.
ok then i could only guess its an idle issue. i would just do what you read anyway. clean out the iacv, fitv, then go ahead and do cleaning maintenance on the egr valve, egr ports, and throttle body.
this is what i gathered so far since im having idle issues as well right when putting car in reverse gear.

If you were going down the tuner road you could chip it and adjust the idle dependant on the temperature, ecu's normaly dictate a 1000ish idle for start up and 750ish idle for running temp,(AIC Compensation) yours sounds as if its not to sure what to do in the heat and is throwing the huff!
Worth a shot, and an idea if your planning to map at a later date...as in 'well im goin there anyway'
hell, id even send you the software to get it done

I'm surprised no one has said this but I would check your main relay if it only happens when its hot. Doesn't have anything to do with the idle I know but they always go out on 90-93 accords and usually only show symptoms when it's hot.
The stalling may be caused by a bad igniter. See this link:

It probably is not the main relay, as a bad main relay would cause no-start problems when hot and not the stalling, etc.

The igniter is in the distributor. It up to you whether you want to take apart the old distributor & replace just the igniter or replace the whole distributor, if that turns out to be your problem.
So to start, I am going to do a real good cleaning of the iacv, tb, and fitv. After that I am going to see out the the car reacts. I am saying that only because I just replaced the cap and rotor.
I'll just share my story and may or may not apply. The thermostat was bad. So the fan would kick in at the wrong time. It works, just at the wrong time. Therefore, causing the engine to overheat and the computer shut down the car.
So when I turn the AC on, it seems to work ok because the fans was constantly running, instead of cycle On-Off.
So later I had a guy "hard-wire" it so the fan was on all the time. It solved the problem, because we didn't want to "fix it."
Just throwing it out there. Good luck.
