Default Clutch noise

I'm inexperienced when it comes to troubleshooting clutches. My question is...what is that groaning type noise I hear when I push in on my clutch pedal? It sounds like a bad powersteering pump...except i only hear it when the clutch pedal is pushed in. I've asked a couple folks at work, and searched the internet and here and the most common answer is the throwout bearing. Does this sound right? I was gonna go ahead and order a whole clutch kit since I'm digging that deep anyways but decided to take a shot in here. Anybody agree or disagree on diagnosis? Thanks all.
