h23 vtec capability?
does a 1996 non vtec prelude come with the wire for vtec?
my friend who owns a nonvtec hatch said it came with the vtec wires build in his car. all he had to do was get a vtec ecu. his car now has vtec.
can anyone tell me whats right here?

You only have the wire for the spool valve, if you order a motor (this is what I did) trace the wires on the RHD harness back to the plug for the oil pressure switch which is a light blue wire and a black ground and pull the plug to the main harness apart and remove the pin. Take that pin and plug it into the empty slot on your harness where it plugs up to the main on the firewall next to the ABS pump and ground the black wire then just plug it up and you will have converted your engine harness for VTEC. You'll also have to extend the plug for the spool valve, it's near the passenger shock tower and is a green/yellow single wire.
You probly have to add them its eazy. As for your friends civic it was vtec at one time if it already had the vtec harness plugs! it was swapped out at one time> you will notice alot of vtec cars replaced with non vtec engines, its a cheap way to get the car on the road again.
All Honda did was save you the time of running one wire.
So are the vtec solenoid and oil pressure connectors are just hanging there on cars without vtec? Bull. Not all 4th gen ludes are prewired for VTEC.
Your H23 engine does not have VTEC. Prelude's from 1993-1996 came pre-wired for VTEC whether they had a VTEC equipped engine or not. So you can't just throw in a P13 ECU and attach some wires to the current motor and gain VTEC. If you swap in a engine equipped with VTEC (H22A, F20B, etc.) and then swap in the appropriate ECU, then you will have VTEC.

lol, when I was working at bailey's auto salvage I personally had the unfortunate duty of removing all of the wiring harnesses from the cars before they got crushed.. I have never seen ANY honda's except a few 99-00 civic non vtec's that were wired for vtec. IDK why, but if your going vtec in a non vtec chassis you'll only have your spool valve wire in the harness already. from my experience anyway. but it's not like running a decent hand made sub harness for your vtec is really that difficult lol
1993-1996 "Si" models are pre-wired. "S" models are not. And only the blue wire for the solenoid is pre-wired. Still have to run the wire for the oil pressure switch.
So is the blue wire in the ECU connector already? The VTEC driver terminal 15 at C415. The vtec sol wire is always green/yellow. ALWAYS.
My 93 Si had the green/ yellow wire, and the light blue wire pre-run. The light blue one was hiding taped up in another harness, but it was there, so I didn't have to change any pins or add any wires on the ECU side of the harness. Just had to wire in the plug to the sensor on that blue wire, and ground it.
