Ok so I just got this car. 94 ls. Sometimes it will start just fine but other times it will just click. But if you jump the starter to the battery, it starts up right away. Tried 2 new starters and new battery. Any ideas?

Also the clutch doesn't have to be pressed in to start the car. It's always been 5spd, not converted.

 

might be a failing ignition switch

if it starts without pressing the clutch then most likely someone bypassed the clutch interlock switch. look up where the switch is and see if anything looks out of the ordinary. all one would have to do to bypass the switch is permanently jump the 2 wires going to the switch to eachother.

 

so would jumping the clutc switch cause this problem? thanks.
