I've got some 185/55/14 tires that I'd like to keep...will they fit on the 14x5.5" HX rims? I've heard people sporting 185/60+65/14. Does either make your car appear lower?

Thought most are running 195/60/14. That's what I'm running on mine.

most are, but I don't want to buy new tires. The ones used on my steelies are new. I'm guessing series 185/50-65/14 all work?

 

Could anyone give me more insight? I did a quick calculation on tire sizes, and the diameter difference is at 6.2%....which is pretty high. Would switching from a larger tire to a smaller one do much damage-or is this really dangerous?

heres a useful link 6.2% is alot, will throw off your speedo ect.

the higher sidewall will fill in the wheelgap a bit more so I guess it would "appear" to be lower, but it would actually be higher up than your other tires.

 

oh and you should be able to fit 175 up to 205 on a 14x5 rim so you -should- be fine with the tires you have.

 

If you have EX/Si front brakes you would need to run 5mm spacers for it to clear the caliper bracket or you can shave off the brackets.

 

185/55-14's will work just fine. I'm using 195/60-14's on my hx's with no problems as well
