Anybody know if the rating system on tire rack is any good? I have some hx's that I want to put some nice tires on and not sure whats best.

I found these GTs that are 195/60/14 that are all season and according to tire racks performance rating they should be better then the yokohoma s drives

They are 185/55/14 maybe thats why the s.drives are not rated as good? Or is the chart they have bs?

​​Go with the S drives or a atleast a quality tire falken azenis, kuhmo ectsa etc. Im getting ready to put S drives on my hx's though.

Tire rack has a performance chart for both, if you look at the links. And according to tire racks charts those GTs are better.

Are you looking for performance, or best tire overall. Nothing beats the michelin defender series. They are pricey but they are also energy saver tires and I saw a bump in gas mileage of about 3 miles a gallon when the tires are inflated to 45psi.

They are around $100 each but have a 60k mile warranty. I've put over 40k on a set before and they still looked brand new

So the charts on tire rack don't actually mean anything?

The s drive and GTs are close in price. But the GTs are all season and have double the thread count. I am gonna assume the s drives are much better performance wise. But is the performance of the s drives worth giving up the the double thread count and all season.

In the 14 inch size these seem to be the only choices. Also just found these falkens at 350 for the set.

That's only 35 more then the s drives but 160 less then the star spec

The performance ratings are to compare tires in the same category against each other. You can't use the numbers from a grand touring all season tire and compare them to numbers from an UHP summer tire, that's like comparing apples to bathtubs. The General RT43 is a great tire for someone who doesn't particularly care about high performance driving and wants a smooth, quiet ride that will last a long time. The Yokohama S.drive is a pretty good performance summer tire if you want a performance tire that will last a bit longer than some of the stickier tires like that Falken Azenis RT615K, which is a super sticky tire that blows the S.drives out of the water (figuratively) around a track.
