Default Help From Lincoln 275 Tig Owners.

Alright so I hate to show my ignorance. However, I have searched all over the internet looking for the answer. I have also changed a million settings on my machine and have not figured it out.

Is the Lincoln 275 capable of doing dc welding without having to scratch start??? If so what settings do I need to change.

I am assuming you mean Precision Tig 275?

I have one, and I was unaware that you COULD scratch start with it. I thought the only way was with the foot pedal or a hand controlled switch.

You can scratch start with a line running off a stick lead but how do you do that on the regular tig setting?

no it is diffidently in tig mode, with a foot pedal, but I am referring to having to touch the metal for the arc to start.

which is why i feel like i either have a setting wrong or there is a problem with the machine itself. The machine is approx. 2.5yrs old. To be honest, I cannot remember if it has always been like this, it just started really bugging me recently.

there is no scratch start setting on a PT275. either some sort of ground issue or a problem with your machine. I have never had such an issue with mine, its about the same age.

I have a PT 185. Its not a scratch start. You use the pedal to start the arc. Just full throtle the peddle real quick then back off.

why would you have to full throttle the petal to establish an arc? it should be making an arc from like 5amps.

Have you checked the High Frequency spark gap? It might need to be cleaned and regapped.

There is also a 2 step/ 4step switch for start control /crater fill This should be set on 2 step for foot pedal use. 4 step is for the remote momentary switch on the torch handle. This is a really nice feature of the machine.

2-STEP/4-STEP TIG/STICK mode control switch. 4-
STEP mode requires the use of an optional Arc Start
Switch. This welding mode reduces fatigue by eliminating
the need to manually control the weld current
during the weld.
• Down Slope Time control is active in 4-STEP TIG
mode. It controls the amount of time (approximately
1 to 10 seconds) it takes the weld current to ramp
down from the Preset level to 25% ±10% of that level.
• Post Flow Time control is active in the 2 and 4-STEP
TIG modes. It controls the amount of time (approximately
5 to 50 seconds) the shielding gas flows after
the weld is completed

Built in High Frequency Generator automatically performs
in the correct mode. If the machine is in STICK
mode, the HF stays ‘OFF’. IF the machine is in DC
TIG mode, the HF comes ‘ON’ and stays on until the
arc is established. IF the machine is in AC TIG mode,
the HF comes ‘ON’ and stays on continuously to stabilize
the arc.

If you need the manual go to lincoln electric and you can download it.

Had the same thing happen to me a couple of times. It was a grounding issue.

ok so I adjusted it. It measured .018, I adjusted it to .015 like the manual suggested. The problem still seems to exist. I am probably going to call Lincoln and see if they can help me.
