Icon6 Help! Timing belt snapped while driving home!

Honda owner here needing some help. While on my way home from work, my car lost power. I emmidiately pulled over and popped the hood &there it was my timing belt sitting on the motor (dont have a timing cover thats why it landed on the motor). Now i was told by many that my motor was shot, dead, no good, and your Fu#ked!. But, then i was also told by many that as long as i didnt try to start it again it should be ok. what do you guys think?!

Well now i got a new timing belt and im getting ready to put it on but dont know where to start. One of the things i need to know is how do i find the TDC (top dead center) and whats the next step? Its a 94 Civic DX with a SOHC VTec. no mods, its just my work car.

So if anyones willing to give me some tips and help this Honda owner out, please!.. I'd appreciate it!. Thanks!

check compression in all cylinders after putting on a new timing belt, if compression is good then your good to go.

im sure your motor is going to be fine, as long as you didnt rev it up when you were losing power

Picking up a Haynes manual would make it 10x easier. But this write up is pretty easy to understand,

Just skip the water pump ****.

Good luck. If compression is good, get some timing belt covers to protect the new belt.

Thanks RonJ@HT!. yea thats problly why the old one snapped, because it was pretty much exposed to the elements.

The one on my Integra snapped at about 75k miles because it was exposed (no cover) IMO. I was lucky to the fact that I didn't mess up the engine. Good luck!

Since you do not have a timing belt cover you might be able to get away with it on. I never actually tried since i always have a cover.

You are very welcome - there's some good advice in that thread. Once I thought about it - I figured I could find the thread easier than you could.

Good luck with getting it back together brother.
