Default Slipped timing belt help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

car was runing at 10mph and started to shut down with several backfires. The guy at gas station told me it's posible of slipped timing belt. How hard to fix it? i am about to change my timing belt tomorrow ........ please help.

Timing belts dont ussualy slip. they are a toothed belt so it is possible the tensioners is loose and it skipped a tooth or two but timing belts dont slip.

does it affect the head at all? I need to get it fix so i can drop my car off for timing belt change

unless its "slipped" so many teeth that the vavles come in contact with the pistons then you should be fine with respect to the head. it sounds as though, it is off several teeth and will need to be replaced and the timing correctly set.

MY civic did that twice it was the distributor rotor bolt fell out
check that and pull off the timing belt cover and inspect the belt.
I lock tighted the threads on the rotor bolt and it never happened again.

^^darn you're the man......... it was distributor/rotor problem....got it fixed.... not sure if the guy applied some thread lock to it.
